| DIVE HARD VI - over and out | The sun dominated the sky and a wonderful barbeque scent made its way over the Skatås Field when the sixth edition of DIVE HARD was played. The best teams of Northern Europe (i.e in Europe) had come to fight for the trophy, harder to beat than any European nationals.
There were a lot of very tough games played during the weekend. For instance Ragnarøk from Denmark fought a hard struggle with the Finnish team SOS in the open division. The game was tied by the Finns at 13-13 and the danes received the pull. Suddenly a mistake by a Danish handler gave SOS a chance they didn't miss. A two minute long offence around Ragnarøk's endzone finally ended in a goal despite a heroic defence from the danes. Another Saturday game which ended with one goal apart was Mälardalen versus the hosts Carnegie USC. Carnegie seemed to get a pretty comfortable ride to victory but they should have learned by now that the Mälardalen team never gives up. Suddenly the game was tied at 14-14 and the last point was to be played for. Seconds after receiving the pull, Carnegie takes a bad decision and Mälardalen gets the chance of making the last goal. But a tremendous effort by the purples gave the offence back and Carnegie could settle the game to 15-14. The final scorer, Björn Sellén just fell to the ground cramping both his calfs.
On Saturday night a party was arranged at the local pub and night club Dojan. The ones who had the strength and stamina to go out on Saturday got themselves nice tasting pasta, cheap beer and a coverband. Overall a fun night in Göteborg City.
The Sunday games were, like the weather, even better than the day before. I dare to say that the best Ultimate in DIVE HARD history was played in the open final. The teams Liquidisc (beating Carnegie in the semi final) and Skogshyddan (beating Chevron Action Flash from Manchester, UK in the semi final) invited us to a game full of long pulls, duels and cuts! Lovely ultimate from both of the teams but in the end Liquidisc from Finland was the strongest team and came home with the Göran Nordqvist trophy after finishing two up against the Gothenburg team (15-13). Increadible Open final!
The women final teams were the defending champions Carnegie USC and their hardest Swedish opponent for the moment, Stenungsund FC. SFC took an early lead and people thought they were about to see an underdog taking the Lillis Trophy, but Carnegie turned the game around and could finally win the final and the trophy,13-9 final result.
Congratulations Carnegie and Liquidisc to their wins!
The result will soon be presented on the DIVE HARD page.
Finally, thank you all for a lovely weekend and the best DIVE HARD ever!! | | 2002-06-05 | | Back |
